ARLINGTON, VA — Today over 100 retired admirals and generals endorsed John McCain for President of the United States at a press conference in Columbia, South Carolina. These distinguished leaders supporting John McCain come from all branches of the armed services and include former POWs, Medal of Honor recipients and former members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
John McCain was joined today in Columbia by five distinguished military veterans: Admiral Leighton “Snuffy” Smith, USN (Ret.); Vice Admiral Mike Bowman, USN (Ret.); Rear Admiral Tom Lynch, USN (Ret.); Rear Admiral Bob Shumaker, USN (Ret.); and Major General Stan Spears, USA, Adjutant General of South Carolina.
“This nation is at war and we’d better damn well understand that fact,” said Admiral Leighton “Snuffy” Smith, USN (Ret.). “John McCain understands it, and he is the only candidate that has not wavered one bit in his position regarding the importance of victory in the war against Islamic extremism or in his commitment to the troops who are doing the fighting. He has consistently demonstrated the kind and style of leadership that we believe is essential in our next Commander in Chief. Our nation faces a growing array of serious foreign policy challenges. John McCain is the ONE candidate who, in our view, truly understands the strategic landscape and is fully prepared to deal decisively and effectively with those who wish to be our friends and, importantly, those who wish us harm.”
John McCain thanked the admirals and generals, stating, “I am deeply honored to have the support of so many distinguished military leaders. I thank them for the trust they have in me, but more importantly, our nation is indebted to their service in defense of our freedom. Our next president will face two wars and an array of national security challenges around the world. My experience, knowledge and background have prepared me to confront these great challenges and lead as commander in chief from day one.”

Minus the immigration/CFR/making enemies with Social Conservatives, McCain would be a great President.
but, as he is…
anyway, I want a nominee we can base the next 30 years on, like we did with Goldwater, like we did with Reagan. McCain does not strike me as that kind of person.

McCain is the man! He is by far the best GOP candidate. Hes the only one who can win in Iraq, cut the deficit AND unite the country! Oh and win the general election. Mitt, Fred and Huck would get killed. Rudy might pull it off.

II still believe,
With all the shake up in the poll rankings,and the doubts about Rudy,Romney and Huck, McCain is in the best position to be the compromise candidate.
Right on the War on Terror ,right on spending and economics ,right on the hot button social issues,and seeing the light on immigration. And the clincher,HE IS TOTALLY ELECTABLE!!

As usual, a nice military pickup by McCain, and I’d be loathe to simply dismiss them.
But there comes a point of diminishing returns. With all of McCain’s previous military endorsements, what does this really gain him? (Not that it hurts him, of course).
I think the union endorsement was far more valuable. We already know McCain’s the military stud.

As has been said before, McCain has the most military and foreign policy experience of any of the current crop of candidates. In fact, he may have more experience in these fields than any candidate since Eisenhower. McCain’s strength in NH is not being the anti-Huck, anti-Mitt, or anti-Rudy — it’s being John McCain!

John McCain has spent more time with the troops in Iraq than any other American politician I can think of. He’s got a better pulse on what the troops know, think, and believe than any other pol. McCain has been through his own battles — literally. He wants to give our troops in Iraq the chance they need to succeed — and they are, my friends. So all you mouthpieces above who taking cheap shots, tell us about your candidates military/foreign policy experience. [CRICKETS]

McCain looked me in the eyes and told ME “thank you”… I stammered that HE was the one to be thanked for his lifelong dedication to this country, he said my service was no less than his. All I did was serve during peacetime. He holds honor and dignity at a level far above the less experienced candidates. And where he falls short, he surounds himself with achievers, so dont call him on weaknesses, thats what Cabinates are for.
