Huckabee Gains Key Florida Endorsement

Nice “get” for Huck:

GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee picked up an endorsement from one of Florida’s most influential conservative politicians this evening in advance of Wednesday night’s Republican debate in St. Petersburg.

State Senate Majority Leader Daniel Webster, who last week hinted he would support Huckabee, this evening publicly endorsed the former Arkansas governor prior to a fund-raiser in downtown Orlando attended by about 50 potential donors.

“The governor’s proved himself to be a leader. Not just someone who sat there and pushed against what was happening but yet became the leader of a state that had a lot of problems. And he did it within an environment that was somewhat hostile not only to his principles but also his party,” said Webster, R-Winter Garden.

Huckabee welcomed the endorsement and praised Webster, a former state House speaker who has become a nationally respected conservative politician during his 28 years in the legislature.

Between this endorsement and the InsiderAdvantage poll, Huck had a pretty good day in The Sunshine State.

Webster’s a good guy. Nice endorsement, but I don’t think a lot of people in the state who don’t receive the RPOF newsletter know who he is… then again, in the primary those are the kind of people you care about anyway.

    Didn’t add this, but Webster’s actually my state senator… so… there’s that.

Zach, I’ll be damned, but he is mine as well

Interesting. I’m in Longwood/Lake Mary in the western piece of Seminole County that falls in his district.

Well, meet a man from Northwest Orange County

This is massive – what’s happened to the Giuliani firewall in Florida???

  7. Jonathan Says:

Webster wouldn’t endorse the Mayor, he is much much more socially conservative than Rudy and Webster has consistently advocated a socially conservative agenda while in office. Personally, I’m surprised he didn’t endorse Thompson earlier when Thompson was all the rage

  8. MWS Says:

Huckabee was also recently endorsed by Bob Inglis, Congressman from South Carolina. Things are really starting to come together.
