Audio: Justin on Hugh Hewitt about Push Polls

Here is the audio from the Hugh Hewitt show. Don’t adjust your browser. I really do speak that fast:

So, lets review.

1) There is ZERO evidence linking TargetPoint the anti-Mormon calls
2) TargetPoint VEHEMENTLY denies that they are behind the calls
3) As I indicated on Hugh’s show… I asked my source about Gage’s denial. His response: “Yeah, we knew it wasn’t them already.”

Today. Mark Hemingway attempted to apologize and wiggle out of a untenable corner defending a theory that has been refuted on every side you turn to.

Late tonight, and to their credit, Kathryn Lopez from NRO admits: “Mark noted some interesting publicly available connections Monday but there is no real evidence I’ve read that the Romney campaign had anything to do with it.”

Then, RedState issues a non-retraction, failing to apologize to Gage & Company for maligning their integrity. To boot, they add another theory to the pot.

Here’s the quote of the day from RedState: “we should not be afraid to ask a very plausible question based on, if nothing else, real world experience in politics: did a friend of the candidate hit him in a well meaning but misguided effort to help him?”

So, we can dismiss any evidence that’s not there and instead rely on RedState’s “real world experience”. What?

RedState didn’t “ask a question”. They treated it as an almost confirmed story and then went on to trash Gage:

And as for Alex Gage and the Romney associates who are apparently behind these efforts: in a campaign where the faith of your candidate has been respected by the overwhelming majority of voters and activists, you’ve managed to create out of thin air the kind of bigoted attack that cheapens the process and expects the worst of the American people. Nice strategy, folks. We hope you’re happy.

You can’t hide behind objectivity when you use that kind of strong language!

God, that Romney ad at the beginning of that audio is disgusting.

An entire ad by a *Presidential* candidate talking about how what goes on in the 4 walls of the home is the most important thing, and how we should raise our kids.

NONE OF THE GOVERNMENT’S GODDAMNED BUSINESS. INAPPROPRIATE FOR A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. THIS IS A *FREE* COUNTRY.

Look, you Rombots: George W Bush is a religious conservative. But he and his advisors are smart enough not to go around sounding like theocrat-wannabes while campaigning.

This will totally alientate the middle. With ads like this on the the record, Mitt Romney stands ZERO chance in a general election.

If you don’t understand this, you are absolutely clueless about American culture.

  6. murphy Says:

You’re right, Metro. All this talk about how important parenting is will surely alienate America. Quick question…do you have kids?

Nobody said this wasn’t a free country, so you can put down the strawman. And what about wholesome families touched such a nerve on you that you had to curse, call names, and bust out the capital letters?

  7. MetroRepublican Says:

murphy, you are smart enough to get it. Try again.

  8. MetroRepublican Says:

To spell it out for the religiously brainwashed:

I have no problems with people such as Dr Laura, Dr Phil, James Dobson, or anyone who wants to talk to the public about proper parenting in whatever manner they please. It touches no nerve. It’s a good thing.

I *DO* have a problem with a Presidential candidate doing that as part of his campaign. Why? Because he is threatening/implying governmental policies directed at the issue, and *THAT* is absolutely inappropriate and offensive in a free country.

  9. murphy Says:

    Metro,

He is using the bully pulpit to advocate something he believes in very strongly, as does the rest of America.

Romney neither threatened nor implied a single government policy which would curtail freedoms. In fact, in this ad he didn’t talk policy at all. Admit your lie. Or change the subject or go quiet.

And if you’ve got no nerve hit, then why all the name-calling? Are you naturally unhinged?

  10. MetroRepublican Says:

You’re not that much of an idiot, murphy.

We all know Romney supports POLICY POSITIONS designed at “strong military,” “strong economy” AND “strong families.”

But that doesn’t actually matter. Because for a Presidential campaign to talk about this stuff INSINUATES it’s a question of government policy. It’s party of a political campaign. It comes across that way to the electorate, for obvious reasons.

Nobody but Rombots believes he’s spending tons of campaign money just to talk about something he feels is important that is unrelated to Presidential politics.

  11. murphy Says:

    Metro,

Of course Romney supports policy positions that strengthen families. For example, he is against tax code that effectively dis-incentivizes single mothers for getting married. As another example, he is in favor of stronger methods of cracking down on child predators.

None of Romney’s past policy proposals curtail freedoms, unless you’re in favor of sexual predators having the freedom to rape children. Are you? How about this. Why don’t you come up with a SINGLE concrete example of Romney wanting to curtail freedoms in the name of strengthening families?

You need to stop with the lame strawman arguments. You should also stop implying that people are either idiots or talking like idiots. And maybe a little intellectual honesty while you’re at it.
