The results of last night’s Rally for Romney were exciting for the MMM crew. We brought in almost $4000 yesterday ramping up our total “take” for Mitt in ’07 to $75,000. Almost 10% of visitors to the site gave a contribution. It was an interesting case study.
There’s quite the discussion going on at the Hugh Hewitt blog with Dean Barnett knocking the viability of activism vs. punditry and Patrick Ruffini chiming in with a good rebuttal. The question: does online activism really matter or is the influence of pundits more important? (Dean just responded again and again here).
My two cents: Dean is right that the influence of blogs is overstated but Patrick is right to note that the future ma be owned by the blogs. Your thoughts.

75k doesn’t help Mitt’s NH poll numbers…

Matthew,
Any more wisdom for us?
September 28th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
Justin, are you the same Justin Hart who is working to uproot pornography?
Just trying to find out what kind of people support Mitt Romney. Some of the most fanatical social authoritarians support Romney (and I don’t mean to say that ALL Romney supporters are like that).
September 28th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
matthew man, low blow. Justin raised a LOT of money for Mitt, and I’d be proud of anyone from race42008 who accomplishes something like that for any candidate. You should too.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
I am that same Justin Hart. No low blow. You’re welcome to have at it. Like Mitt… it’s a very good cause as well. I will take issue with your characterization of the movement… but that’s for another day.

I dont think its a very fair thing to say when he didnt at least acknowledge the achievement.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:39 pm
Matthew,
Romney is ahead in NH. Sorry man, but your candidate is still losing in the states that matter the most right now. You are in denial.

If being against pornography means I am a ‘fanatical social athoritarian’ then count me in that category.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
I just sent 25 dollars to a good cause!
Now I’m really Rallying Romney!!! Booyeah!

There are some pretty whacked out people supporting Rudy also. I guess that can go for any candidate.

Keep it up guys. I’m still getting through my list and having further success soliciting donations on behalf of Mr. Romney from my effort. I should finish by the end of the day. Kudos to Jason for his efforts, those numbers are impressive!
It feels great to donate and also help set the record straight from those who distort & smear by blogging, but joining a fund raising team is a whole new level. If I can do this, anyone can.
I’d encourage anyone interested to take action by at least thinking it over, getting some names down, and being prepared to rock by end of Q4 for the next Rally for Romney.

Justin: ‘I am that same Justin Hart. No low blow. You’re welcome to have at it. ‘
Good.
‘Like Mitt… it’s a very good cause as well. ‘
Well, I get uneasy when people start talking about controlling what other people do. That’s it.

John Galt: ‘If being against pornography means I am a ‘fanatical social athoritarian’ then count me in that category.’
No one talked about ‘being against pornography’. You’re entitled to that position. However, you are a fantical social authoritarian if you want to use the police powers of the government to get rid of the things you’re ‘against’. Of course, that doesn’t apply to things that directly harm other people.

Like myself? Obviously, all the campaigns have their share of deranged supporters. But some of the campaigns have more idiots than others. I think that Ron Paul, for example, gets most of his support from people who are locked up in mental institutions. At least, they generally sound like they should be.

I agree with your #16.
Also, I think that we all have to be somewhat deranged ourselves to be following this race this closely this far out.
September 28th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
…but it sure is fun!
September 28th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
? 3 months till Iowa? That’s not that bad. But some of us have been here since June.. lol
September 28th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
Actually, May.
September 28th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
Ryan,
I’ve been here almost daily since December last year. So perhaps I’m a bit more deranged than you..

You’re right, it’s a waste of time. I guess it’s nice to fight with people, though.

Justin is the lighted candle society a Mormon effort or is it non-denominational/religious?
September 28th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
Matthew,
What would really be a boon to Mitt’s NH numbers would be a poll that doesn’t massively oversample independents, most of whom aren’t going to be voting the Republican primary.
September 28th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
Justin,
That is so awesome! Congratulations. I wish I’d known about your site before….

LCS is not linked to any denomination… it was founded by Ed Meese along with John Harmer.
