This is a follow-up post on today’s story in the Des Moines Register about the Vietnamese community here in Des Moines rallying around Senator Brownback for his commitment to human rights issues and religious liberty around the world.
Here’s a YouTube video of one of our young interns out here in Iowa, Trinh Le, who is going to be a senior in high school. She put together yesterday’s event. She gave a very personal and moving story on the Pro-Life, Whole-Life tour about what her family has gone through and why she is supporting Senator Brownback. Please watch, I promise its worth it.

Whats weird is how nice Brownback is in person, and how nasty his campaign is. Why is that? I found the last post on Vietnamese outreach moving, and totally at odds with an attack-dog robocalling fiercely aggressive anti-other candidates candidate.
Why the discrepency? Is the nasty side from someone else in the campaign?

who cares. can’t wait until august 12th when he is out.

JayPe,
Sen. Brownback is running a very good campaign, all i can say to you is, welcome to politics. Sen. Brownback only pointed out that Romney has Flip-Flopped on many issues near and dear to the hearts of Iowa conservatives. And he pointed out also that his wife has given to Planned Parenthood many times. And he also attacked Tom Tancredo b/c someone gave him money who was the founder of a planned parenthood in Michigan. Sen. Brownback is only stating facts about the two candidates. And JON, if your hoping Sen. Brownbackk is leaving after Aug.12th think again, you will be seeing alot more of Sen. Brownback after he shocks you all and does great in the straw poll.

Just wait and see SDGOP, just wait and see.

Bryan, he’s preaching hope at the same time as running a very negative campaign.
That tactic might have worked in 2004, but I don’t think it will this time. The success of Obama (and the lack of success of Brownback) shows that voters are responding to positive messages much more.
At some point, he’s going to have to either:
a) take control of his campaign, and instruct the team to cut out the negativity, OR
b) take responsibility for the negative campaigning.

Bryan,
Brownback has also lied many times. For instance, when he said Romney was not Pro-life. Romney clearly is.
Unfortunately Brownback is a huge waste of Presidential time. the guy has no qualities that set him apart and flips as well. He was once pro-choice, he is soft on immigration, he didn’t support the troops and he flipped within minutes of voting on immigration but thought he could dupe us into thinking he was nuancing for us.
I think Sam’s best spot is as a senator and a pro-life advocate, he holds not ability as a national leader, absolutely none. Not too mention he is running a campaign of sleaze.
When I was in Iowa a few weeks ago you could literally feel the animosity from Brownback workers, it’s like they all have a chip on their shoulders. The fact his organization takes on such a negative tone, bordering hate of Romney (not a christ-like virtue) down to their personality tells me he would be a disaster.
July 29th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
First of all, Brownback has always been pro-life, its just that he didnt announce it as much when he ran for congress the first time around, but he has never been pro-choice, unlike Mitt Romney who has Flip-Flopped more times than John Kerry on abortion and any number of other issues. Brownback is not “soft” on immigration. He believes that we need to enforce the laws that we have in place right now, which is what we need to do. The choice is clear to voters in Iowa, do they want a True Conservative who has never flip-flopped on issues like Mitt Romney, or do they want someone else who is not as conservative. I think the choice is clear and Sen.Brownback will reign supreme come Aug. 11th.

the question you each have to ask yourself, and this goes to ANY canidate, is it negative campaining if what is said is the truth. the fact of life is that the truth, can sometimes make a person not look as good as you thought.
July 29th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
And Sen. Brownback is just pointing out truthful things about those candidates, but they are factual things and he is just pointing that out and letting the voters know.
July 29th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
I’m pretty sure Romney said that Giuliani is supportive of legal same-sex marriage, which is wrong. Hence, by using your method of classification, Romney too is a liar.

Here’s a bumper sticker for you :
Brownback ’08 – Because we didn’t loose badly enough with Dole ’96
July 29th, 2007 at 10:13 pm
Well personally i like this one-
Brownback ’08- A true Conservative who can bring the country together.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Dude, what was up with that prayer at the beginning of the rally? How often do politicians start their rallies with prayer? It might have been a nice prayer if it didn’t sound so contrived. I think she hit on all the points Brownback wanted her to say.

off topic….can anyone explain to me why Ripken is a hall of fame player….player…not feel good story

Mitt….has only changed his mind once!!! On abortion. Now you might think you are clever and try to come up with other stuff, but you are wrong. Your candidate is the most mean spirited person I have seen on the Republican side. He tells lies about Romney. And that’s the truth. Just the other day I saw a video of him saying Mitt was pro- choice. WRONG!!! Mitt has always been for an assault-weapon ban. He has always been for gay rights, but against gay marriage, and illegal immigration. You have fallen for the “If you hear it enough times, it must be true gag” Check the real facts.
Brownback 08???? Mean spirited…..will divide the country even worse than it is divided now.

So,
Brownback is a nice guy, who can’t control the campaign guys who have turned it negative. He’s a firm advocate for social conservative issues, but doesn’t come across very passionately on the stump (he makes Hillary look as empathetic as Bill!).
I like the guy, but I reckon he’s better placed in the Senate. Or maybe running for Governor of Kansas…
July 30th, 2007 at 12:08 am
Bryan and Billy Valentine are clearly a few of the tens of Brownback supporters. I give it up to them supporting their guy who is stuck just over 0% (inc the margin of error). Keep telling yourself Brownback will shock the world, and maybe he can add a few dozen more votes. Good luck on Aug 11th.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:51 am
I heard that the Brownback camp may have won the endorsement of the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout troop 913 in Topeka, KS. That is huge. He is really gaining momentum.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:55 am
She seems like a nice girl, as does the one doing the introduction but geez… Thats 12 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. And for what??????????????
July 30th, 2007 at 6:01 am
Husky- Have you paid attention to how things are shaping up for Sam in Iowa?
U are a nut job..Sam has managed to grab some major endorsements in the state, in addition to that he has one of the best grassroots operations there is in the state.
But you keep spouting off against Sam there, when he beats Mitt at Ames it will be all over but the crying for you, but no fear I will send all the Romney folks tissues to cry away the pain.
Get used of saying President Brownback…
July 30th, 2007 at 6:05 am
If Brownback doesn’t inform people about the truth than who will? If they can’t deny the truth all they can do is say it is negative. The truth does hurt and I am happy Iowans are hearing it. While at the same time having a US Senator with a depth of experience and a conserative record.
July 30th, 2007 at 7:19 am
I love that his chief liason to the Vietnamese community is a high school, very indicative. What a powerplayer we have in Brownback. I am guessing his campaign manager is high school Student Body President?
Oh yes, Brownback was pro-choice. Ask those who knew him at the time and read this.
July 30th, 2007 at 8:48 am
Jason,
Mitt Romney is not pro-life, he does not support the Republican Party’s platform on abortion. If I am wrong, please show me documentation.
Additionally, it is quite sad that you would attack a young girl whose family went through persecution and suffering to get to America and basically lived in poverty-like conditions and is now working on a presidential campaign.
July 30th, 2007 at 8:50 am
Although I am sure your life story is far more compelling then hers, Jason, so please share it with us here since she shared hers with us on YouTube, although it sounds like your candidate is very distrustful of YouTube. But, given the prominent viewing of his flip-flops on it, I don’t blame him.
July 30th, 2007 at 8:59 am
“A stellar ground game”
Than why is Brownback still a distant (very distant) 4th or 5th in the IA polls, his strongest state. The last 2 Brownback videos Ive seen have been of people (volunteers) not even of voting age. What about those OVER 18? Any of them support Brownback? Like I said Billy, to be one of the tens of people who support Sammy has to be tough. And to know that your arch rival who you despise has 8 times the support as your guy has to eat at you.
July 30th, 2007 at 9:21 am
Billy,
So are you saying those who support a human life ammendment are pro-life? Than I guess that leaves only Brownback.
And that is the lamest thing I have heard about life stories. But not as lame as a high Schooler as your outreach coordinator.
P.S. Brownback used to be pro-choice. And he voted against immigration reform before he voted for it. Another Brownflop…
July 30th, 2007 at 9:34 am
The more the Brownback campaign attacks Romeny, the less likely I am to ever vote for the man. That goes for any candidate. As of now, I think I’d rather vote Giuliani over Brownback.
Attack Romney because he is a convert to the pro-life cause? Why not attack those who are pro-abortion? This makes no sense to me. This I was pro-life before you were pro-life therefore you can’t be pro-life thing is flat out stupid.
I’ve said this before and I’ll state this again. Dole was a better known Senate Majority leader from Kansas who could not beat a Clinton. How is it that a lesser know Brownback from Kansas has a better shot at a Clinton?
I appreciate that the enthusiasm some of the Brownback supporters have for their man. That is great that they are sticking up for him. However, I’ve seen the Brownback campaign go way too negative recently, especially against the Romney campaign. I’m going to interpret that as the last vestiges of campaign life.
July 30th, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Jason sounds gay. “Sounds like the Brownback people have a chi on their shoulder”. Then he goes and attacks young campaigners. I’m all for Paul, but this Jason guy sounds like a fatty.
