Wayne Barrett of the Village Voice, no friend of the Mayor historically (he has written a highly critical biography of him as well as a book criticizing his role in 9/11), reports on the relationship between Rudy Giuliani and his beloved New York Yankees, which the author finds controversial. Let the voters decide.

I’ve read the whole Village Voice article. When I began reading I didn’t think this was anything, but by the time I was done I wondered if Rudy’s campaign would survive. The article makes a very good case that Rudy illegally accepted at least one World Series ring from the Yankess and over a hundred thousand dollars of free tickets (in Steinbrenner’s box) and memorabilia over the years he was mayor. If he gets the same treatment that others have for doing the same thing, then Rudy is in trouble.
If Rudy gets investigated over this, he may end up being convicted and effectively out of the presidential race.

I doubt he’ll be investigated if it hasn’t been brought up legally yet. There’s probably not strong enough evidence to pull a prosecutor in.

dblagent007,
I wouldn’t count on it. I’m from NJ, and if I’ve learned anything, the words “X is under federal criminal investigation” don’t seem to dissuade anyone from voting for that candidate.

Why do I have this nagging feeling that if Rudy became president every top Dominican prospect for the Boston Red Sox would be labelled a “threat to national security”?

Giuliani already responded to this today. If you want to read an even more ridiculous troll plant of a story, check this out: http://www.anamosaje.com/NewsArchive/2007/May/3/news.html#1

Peter, do you have a link to his comments about this story? I would be interested to read them.

Peter, I’ve tried to click on the link you provided, and it’s down. Do you have another link?
Many thanks,
