Hotline Teases…

Hotline has two interesting tidbits regarding their soon to be released Diageo Poll.

First off:

28 percent of those surveyed in the latest Hotline/Diageo poll correctly identified ex-NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani as pro-choice — that includes 33 percent of Republicans.

The rest either believed he is pro-life, or they didn’t know.

That sounds like the smoking gun, right?

But only 11 percent of those we surveyed incorrectly stated that Sen. John McCain is pro-choice, indicating an enhanced level of knowledge about Giuliani’s social positions among primary voters.

45 percent of those we surveyed believe that Sen. Hillary Clinton is pro-choice.

And secondly

Mitt Romney is taking hits for lurching to the right, but a new Diageo/Hotline poll shows his WH ’08 strategy may be working.

– Romney’s name I.D. among GOPers remains less than 1/2 that of McCain or Giuliani, according to the survey, but comparable numbers of GOP voters view him as “conservative.” The ex-MA gov also has the lowest “liberal” rating of the three.

– Of course, the Right’s still not sold on their top tier. Less than 1/4 of GOPers describe any of them as conservative. Other unique hurdles each one faces: More than half of GOPers say Giuliani’s a moderate, but only 1/3 even know he’s pro-choice … yet. Also just 26% of GOP voters know Romney’s a Mormon. And slightly more than half of all voters (60% of GOPers) think McCain is 64 or younger; He’d be 72 at his 1/09 swearing-in.

Commenter “Samuel J. Tilden” also noticed a seeming inconsistency in the first post:

How is it that the poll results indicate an “enhanced level of knowledge” about Giuliani’s positions if in fact more people misidentified his position than McCain’s?

I am going to hold off on the analysis until I see the actual numbers.

The latest Zogby poll numbers are out for Hillary and the GOP.

Obama is moving up quickly now as he begins to campaign.

22,000 came out to see him on a rainy day in Austin!

    Giuliani 47%, Clinton 40%
    Giuliani 40%, Obama 46%
    Giuliani 46%, Edwards 40%

    McCain 47%, Clinton 39%
    McCain 40%, Obama 44%
    McCain 47%, Edwards 38%

    Romney 35%, Clinton 45%
    Romney 29%, Obama 51%
    Romney 32%, Edwards 47%

This poll shows real movement for Obama, and that Obama won the tiff with Hillary big-time.

This is very worrisome as 35% of the electorate still know nothing about Obama!

What can the GOP do to stop this guy? Is there something in his record?

I am just about to post on that ILM! Stay tuned…

In the meantime, see here for your questions regarding Obama.

Hmmmm the link says Obama likely will appeal mostly to Dems:

“Once again, this is what the MSM would have you believe. However, I have yet to see a single shred of empirical evidence to support this. What does 1,300 Democrats showing up to hear Obama speak at a Democratic barbecue fundraiser have to do with winning over moderates and independents? I will concede right now that Obama is quite popular among Democrats.

Obama certainly has mastered the language and manner of a moderate Democrat. Whether he is able to maintain that image when the general public finds out more about him remains to be seen.”

What worries me is the massive crowds he is already gathering and now Obama beats our front-runners, where last week he was behind. This looks like Big Mo to me.

If Partial Birth Abortion is the worst we can throw at him and that he’s a liberal, I don;t know…

He’s from Chicago! Isn’t there ANY corruption story about him??

  4. murphy Says:

    ILM!,

Partial Birth Abortion is not the worst…during his tenure in the state legislature, Obama blocked legislation aimed at preventing the murder of infants born alive after botched abortions.

Few Democrats have attempted to extend a woman’s “right” to kill her child to the period of time following that child’s live birth. Obama takes the cake.

  5. I Like Mike! Says:

Wow! I understand now. That’s pretty bad. We need to get the word out!

How about him supporting a politician who was corrupt in Chicago if he himself is not?

  6. JayPe Says:

How sad to see you guys descending to the level of politicians by desparately trying to find something to pin on Obama to bring him down. You’re a disgrace.

  7. murphy Says:

JayPe, I think I hear Twighlight Zone music…you’re yanking my chain, right?

  8. JayPe Says:

The Guiliani numbers are a worry for his straight talking campaign. 67% of Rupublicans don’t know he’s pro-choice? Can’t imagine those guys falling into line behind him when they work it out. And they will find it out. The ignorance is unbelievable though, 60% think McCain is younger than 64? He doesn’t look it…

The fact Obama is already creaming the Repub potential nominees suggests that any Dem candidate (other than Hillary) is highly likely to win in 2008. Repubs should be worried.

  9. JayPe Says:

Is Obama doing so well because he’s promising a “new brand of politics”, and people are fed up with the partisan mud slinging that has characterised the reign of Bush/Cheney/Rove?

  10. Texas Conservative Says:

    I like Mike,

Hey about your comment regarding Obama’s Austin rally, I went sporting my Romney T-shirt, and the crowd was overwhelming. You must realize, however, that, though Austin may be in Texas, it is not far off politically from San Francisco. Also, the “rainy” description is a little misleading- the day can more correctly be described as foggy(borderline drizzle).
