Finally, we see Rudy Giuliani hitting the campaign trail in full force!? (Hat tip to FullosseousFlap)
Rudy gave the headline speech at the New Hampshire Republican Convention earlier this morning, which received rave reviews.
Next stop on the?’Leadership’?Express:
- January 29th – A Giuliani fund-raiser will be held Jan. 29 in Pacific Palisades, Calif., at the home of Bill Simon, the 2002 Republican candidate for governor of California, costing $2,300 a person and $4,600 per couple.
- January 30th – Rep. Mary?Bono’s campaign is sponsoring a golf event to raise funds for Giuliani’s committee on Tuesday, at the Rancho Mirage home and golf course of Edra Blixseth, Porcupine Creek Golf Club. Information: (310) 500-4284 or by e-mail at events@marybono.com
- February 1st – Texas Republican contributors are being solicited to spend $30,000 for dinner with former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani at the Houstonian Hotel in Houston Feb. 1 to finance his “presidential exploratory committee.” The “private” dinner will follow a 6:30 to 8 p.m. cocktail reception, costing $2,100 a person and $4,200 for couples.
I’m particularly interested in the attention Rudy is giving to California, which, with its many electoral votes and big-name potential donors/supporters, could begin playing a?huge role in the Republican nominating process, especially if they move their primary date up to February 5th, 2008,?as is planned.

Ok, Rudy is on an absolute roll. With this said, I don’t mind him not announcing anytime soon (which is probably
helping him if you think about it) but he’ll need to complete his IW, NH & National Staff very shortly.
Apart from the above, Mr. Giuliani is looking more likely to face Clinton next year.

With so many large states moving their primaries up into January and February (Florida, California, New Jersey, Illinois, etc.), the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary – where door-to-door, leather on the ground campaigning matters a lot – become less and less important. So the efficacy of organization in these states is increasingly discounted in the overall scheme of things since paid television advertising and unpaid (free) media coverage (of the kind the big-name candidates, such as Giuliani, will get) are going to matter most as convention delegates are voted on so quickly and in such a concentrated fashion in 2008.
The 2008 campaign is not likely to play out as usual – where early momentum gained shaking hands in Iowa and New Hampshire matters most. The advantage is going to be with the candidates who have the most cash on hand and name recognition, given the compressed caucus and primary schedule. Giulaini and Gingrich, who have high name recognition and should be able to raise significant funds quickly, are going to run non-conventional campaigns, so the concern and criticism over their lack of organization in early caucus and primary states is misguided, I think, and misses the point of what will matter in getting your 2008 message out across the nation in the compressed 2008 primary calendar.
This site would do much better tracking name recognition polling data and campaign finance statements rather than insider endorsements given what is likely to transpire in 2008, where we are headed for a two-month (January and February of 2008) national primary.
