Mayor Giuliani Methodically Putting A 2008 GOP Presidential Campaign Together

In addition to the hiring of Sandra Pack as Chief Financial Officer, the Mayor Rudy Giuliani presidential exploratory committee will be conducting their first fund-raiser on December 19 in New York City, hosted by Home Depot founder and former Director of the New York Stock Exchange Ken Langone.

The New York Sun reports on the hiring of Ms. Pack, the?New York Times?reports on the fund-raiser,?while the New York Daily News?reports on both.

Clearly Mayor Giuliani will be a presidential candidate in 2008, though it is fascinating to see how methodically he is putting the pieces together – refusing to match Governor Mitt Romney and Senator John McCain and rush into creating an early?cadre of ground troops and activist supporters for forays into?the first?caucus and primary states.

While Governor Romney and Senator McCain are running traditional presidential campaigns, the other two members of the Formidable Four – Mayor Giuliani and Speaker Newt Gingrich – are taking a less standard approach to the campaign. It will be interesting to see which approaches provide the most traction.

  1. Jennifer Says:

It strikes me that Mitt needs a traditional campaign to show he has credible people who will support him financially and otherwise and work in the states. McCain needs one to try to establish the Bush 2000 invincibility model. Rudy is a rock star with 100% name recognition and has the luxury of just raising money. Newt is being Newt and I think does not have real aspirations of running.

  2. Republius Says:

I think Newt wants to run as badly as anyone in either party. His problem is whether he has too much baggage, and I am confident he knows that and is therefore being coy. The draft strategy is perfect for him.
