A Conservative Web Site Likely To Be Decidedly Pro-Romney In 2008

National conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt is currently writing a book about the presidential prospects of Governor Mitt Romney that is reportedly going to be very favorable to the candidate. Given the angst with which so many voters, according to polling data, are likely to view Romney’s Mormon faith, the Hewitt book may well be a springboard for if not cornerstone of the Governor’s presidential campaign come next March.

Hewitt blogging partner Dean Barnett admits that he is an unabashed fan of Governor Romney because he knows him and has volunteered previously for him, and will support?Romney enthusiastically in 2008.

I guess the Hugh Hewitt web site is no longer undecided when it comes to the presidential race of 2008.

This will come as no surprise to listeners of Hugh’s show. I think it’s been pretty obvious who Hugh’s ” dog is in this fight” for well over a year now.

Having a favorable political biography written about you by a nationally known person will be a huge boon to the Romney campaign in 2008. Most candidates have to write such a book themselves at the beginning of their quests, as Governor Huckabee is doing, and would love for someone to do for them what Hewitt is doing for Romney.

That’s interesting. One of the very first pieces Hugh penned following Bush’s reelection in 2004 was very pro-Rudy. Hugh was for Rudy before I was. It dealt with Hugh’s conversations with grassroots conservative voters and their adoration for the Mayor that remained even when Hugh would bring up issues like abortion. This column seems long forgotten two years later, but I wonder where Hugh would fall in a race that included both Rudy and Romney.

    Dave,

I think that Hugh has essentially (but in an unoffical capacity of course) joined “Team Romney”.

With his Pro-Romney book, his bringing aboard Pro-Romney bloggers, and his many softball interviews with Mitt himself, I’m not sure what other conclusion we can draw.

Hugh, of course, is entitled to back whoever he wishes to. I am, and will always be, a huge Hugh Hewitt fan (try saying that three times fast) despite our difference of opinion on this issue.

  5. Stephen Says:

So, Hugh supports a candidate for president who governed his state as a pro-choice, anti-gun liberal, who pushed “HillaryCare Lite” onto the public and who presided over the massive multi-billion dollar boondoggle known as the Big Dig?

Huh. And here I thought Hewitt was a conservative.

But he IS the most attractive of the bunch. I guess that’s how we’re choosing presidents these days, right?

  6. Matt Says:

Romney agreed to respect the pro-choice majority in Massachusetts. The same stance that Ronald Reagan took while governing California (though Reagan actually signed into law a new pro-choice bill, while Romney refused to, vetoing a stem-cell bill and emergency contraceptive bill). Romney’s plan is nothing like HillaryCare, and was passed over numerous line-item vetoes of certain more liberal segments of the bill. And Romney did not preside over the Big Dig, unless by preside you mean inherited a 15 year disaster of a project, and fought for 4 years to take control over it due to it’s failures, only succeeding when it killed someone. It’d be lovely if people could at least attempt to be informed before posting.
