I still think Obama is aiming for the veep slot, but according to Newsweek’s Jon Alter, he seems to have Team Hillary terrified. The thinking goes that an Obama candidacy would drain most of the traditional balck support for the Clintons and she’d be dead in the water. Add to this the fact that John Harwood says he talked to a top aide to Bill Clinton that said that Hillary would not run and Obama would. Now comes an article by RCP’s John McIntyre that says that Hillary would likely take a pass in 2008 if it was likely that Obama would run and that the GOP would nominate McCain or Giuliani. Better for Obama to lose the general election and permanently damage his White House hopes. In the meantime, Hillary can become, say, Majority Leader and elevate herself in hopes of a more sucessful 2012 run.

I’m not sure I buy all of this, but it’s definitely much to chew on.
