Showdown: Condi Rice v. Bill Clinton

For anyone who doubts that Sec. Rice has a mind of her own and can defend herself against slick politicians, read about how Condi tears apart former President Bill Clinton’s claims that the Bush administration did “nothing” in its eight months pre-9/11, that his administration tried harder to get bin Laden than did Bush’s, and that Clinton passed onto the Bush administration a “comprehensive” plan on how to take down al-Qaeda.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday accused Bill Clinton of making “flatly false” claims that the Bush administration didn’t lift a finger to stop terrorism before the 9/11 attacks.

Rice hammered Clinton, who leveled his charges in a contentious weekend interview with Chris Wallace of Fox News Channel, for his claims that the Bush administration “did not try” to kill Osama bin Laden in the eight months they controlled the White House before the Sept. 11 attacks.

“The notion somehow for eight months the Bush administration sat there and didn’t do that is just flatly false – and I think the 9/11 commission understood that,” Rice said during a wide-ranging meeting with Post editors and reporters.

“What we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years,” Rice added.

The secretary of state also sharply disputed Clinton’s claim that he “left a comprehensive anti-terror strategy” for the incoming Bush team during the presidential transition in 2001.

“We were not left a comprehensive strategy to fight al Qaeda,” Rice responded during the hourlong session.

Her strong rebuttal was the Bush administration’s first response to Clinton’s headline-grabbing interview on Fox on Sunday in which he launched into an over-the-top defense of his handling of terrorism – wagging his finger in the air, leaning forward in his chair and getting red-faced, and even attacking Wallace for improper questioning.

Condi hit a grand slam with this. Yes, the voice won’t stop her!

  2. Jimmy Seals Says:

Romney/Rice the Dream Team of 2008!!!!

  3. Gamecock Says:

Jimmy, that would be a great ticket. Oneof the best I have seen. I think the GOP MUST have a Blaclk conservative on the ticket, whether it be Rice or JC Watts, etc

  4. Debbie Watson Says:

Team Bush with Condi as the quarterback jumped over
the heads of Bill and Hillary. Condi made the touchdown and
scored the points by having her face on the front of New York
    Post twice, (Tuesday and Wednesday)
Add this to the dynamic “60 Minutes” show where she explained
the horror of living in segregated Birmingham, Alabama when
4 little African-American girls died in that church bombing.

Condi was also interviewed on MTV this week, and she really has
more ability to connect to the younger generation that the old
guys. She is a refreshing new face, and voters are selecting
her in poll after poll. Now we will see how things turn out
by this time next year. She will be seen as the LEGACY candidate,
and her efforts to get the Military Tribunal Plan passed in the
Senate is a key reason why her efforts at the White House will
help this President be successful over the next year.

  5. Believer Says:

Most likely it will be Clinton/Obama in the Democrat’s corner, so I strongly believe that a Romney/Rice ticket is the only chance the Republicans will have to beat them. Mitt is a good man, and he is handsome. A lot of people vote on looks. Ms. Rice is outstanding, and will help to bring the well deserved African-American vote to the party.
McCain and Rudy won’t do it no matter the mix. I like Rudy, but I don’t fully trust John. Hagel is not a Republican in my book. Hunter isn’t known well enough, and Tancredo, bless his anti-illegal alien heart, unfortunately is also not known well enough. Newt deserves a cabinet spot where he will do the most good.
