Sager on Giuliani v. McCain

Ryan Sager?anoints Giuliani the frontrunner.? I would agree, and I concur with Sager’s take on a Giuliani v. McCain race.? Sager’s column is clearly designed to grab the attention of those individuals still maintaining an MSM-induced belief that McCain has ’08 wrapped up, even though we here at Race 4 2008 have long ago dispensed with the notion that McCain will end up anywhere near the nomination.? I think Sager’s column would’ve been far more interesting?had he analyzed the impact of an Allen or a Romney on Giuliani’s chances.

The frontrunner is undecided. Until the primary starts only one candidate has firm support (and firm opposition). That candidate is McCain. He is the only main candidate who has been through a recent GOP primary in the past. Every other candidates support is really just their name recognition.

We’ll know what the public thinks once they find out who these candidates are.
Anyone familiar with GOP primaries should know that Gingrich and Guiliani aren’t serious candidates because of their sleezy personal lives.

McCain’s past presidential run is a huge assest for him and is often overlooked. Candidates are immeasurably better the second time around, giving them the ability to make first-timers pay for their rookie mistakes.

I’m not denying that McCain has laid the best groundwork for 2008 by far. I do believe that he is entitled, at this point, to call himself the frontrunner.

That being said, McCain has not been able to use his experience to keep him from making “rookie” like mistakes already. Read the Esquire interview and tell me if you think McCain has learned anything in regards to keeping his mouth shut this time around.

Aside from his views, Giuliani’s messy personal life may be his Achille’s Heel in the primaries. In spite of his status as “America’s Mayor,” Giuliani would probably lose to ALlen or even McCain.
